As the year comes to a close, you may feel the pressure to set resolutions:
“This year I’ll be more productive.”
“I’ll finally stop procrastinating.”
“I’ll exercise at the gym.”
But how many times have you said something like that… only to find yourself right back in the same pattern weeks—or days—later? You’re not alone. Resolutions rarely stick. And the reason isn’t because you’re not motivated or don’t care enough. It’s because you’re trying to build something new on top of something old.
Old Patterns Are Still Running in the Background
People carry around inner patterns formed long ago—ways of thinking and reacting that developed when they were very young. Back then, their options for responding to situations were very limited due to their young age, lack of experience, and dependence on caretakers.
You might have learned to procrastinate when a task felt overwhelming.
Or to aim for perfection to avoid criticism or disappointment.
Or to avoid situations that brought up discomfort, fear, or shame.
Or to depend too much on others, unsure if you could trust your own judgment.
These Patterns Aren’t Your Fault
They started when you had few options—and became locked in as survival strategies. But even when you mature, those patterns remain because they have become locked-in. So when you make New Year’s resolutions to change unhelpful patterns, it’s no surprise that the changes don’t take hold. Those older patterns prevail because they’re locked in.
What If You Could Leave Them Behind?
What if you didn't have to struggle with those old habits in the New Year? What if your patterns—like procrastinating, striving for perfection, avoiding uncomfortable situations, depending too much on others, or other unhelpful habits, could quietly melt away as helpful patterns replace them?
The Inner Guide
That’s what becomes possible when you create something I call the Inner Guide. The Inner Guide is a new mental pathway you can create in your mind—through an easy, learnable process—that quietly works behind the scenes to unlock old, locked-in patterns that make life harder and replace them with better responses.
Over time, you find yourself doing things a new way, an easier, more effective way—without the difficulties that used to get in your way.
